Jumper’s knee or patellar tendinitis is caused due to repeated stress or overuse of your patellar tendon. Continuous pressure on the tendon can lead to tiny tears in the body. As the number of tears in the tendon increases, it causes inflammation, pain, and weakening of the tendon. When this continues to happen for weeks, the condition is called tendinopathy.
Patellar tendinitis starts from a sudden pain between the shinbone (tibia) and kneecap since the patellar tendon is attached to your shinbone. You may feel knee pain after doing physical activity or working out. If not treated on time, the pain can worsen and impact your daily activities, such as standing up from a chair, climbing stairs, and playing sports.
The jumper’s knee treatment begins with pain-relieving medications and physical therapy techniques, including strengthening and stretching exercises. Your doctor may also use corticosteroid injections to relieve inflammation in your knee. You may also have to undergo surgery to treat your jumper’s knee pain, but a non-invasive and less painful treatment is available for your knee!
Due to their natural ability to transform into any other type of cell, stem cells can be taken not only from your own body, but from a different person (likely, the umbilical cord), and transplanted into your problem area. The cells will adapt and take on a different “form” as if they were there since the beginning.
Stem cells can be concentrated and activated. While many types of stem cells are a good starting point for practical use, it is the concentration and activation of the cells that has truly made it an effective therapy. Certified practitioners are able to tweak these cells to address exactly the problem you are facing.
How Does It Work?
Platelet Rich Plasma is astoundingly simple in concept; your doctor or medical technician inject a laboratory made concentration that is created from your own blood. That is right, your own blood. Essentially, PRP is a specialized healing plasma.
The benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma will have you feeling completely revitalized, as it is your own natural plasma, which has had the most platelet-dense part of your blood, added back into it. The result is a highly-charged infusion of plasma with a particularly high content of platelets.
How Does It Work?
Your doctor will perform a physical test by applying pressure on different areas of your knee to determine the source of pain. The jumper’s knee pain usually appears on the front of your knee below the kneecap. Performing imaging tests, such as X-rays, MRIs, and ultrasounds, helps the doctor view the image of your bone to determine the treatment plan.
For your jumper’s knee treatment, you’ll have to visit a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist (physiatrist), sports medicine specialist, orthopedic surgeon, or a physical therapist. They will ask you about your knee health and pain history, so make sure you remember every detail on the day of your appointment.
You can recover in about six weeks with on-time jumper’s knee treatment. However, full recovery may take more weeks or even months after exercises and physical therapy. You may start feeling less knee pain after three weeks.
