What causes foot and ankle pain?

Foot and ankle are one of the most uncomfortable injury or inflammation areas, causing pain and discomfort with every step you take. Here are some of the most common conditions that could cause foot and ankle pain:

  • Broken foot. Fractures in the foot are more common than many patients think, and it doesn’t always take a full on car crash to cause one. A simple misstep could cause a crack in your foot bone, as could a heavy object dropped on top of your foot. Fractures usually cause foot pain on top of the foot and on the side of the foot.
  • Bone fracture. Common among runners and athletes, the inflammation in your Achilles usually surfaces as mild pain after an increased-intensity workout. In general terms, tendinitis is caused by the overuse of the Achilles tendon.
  • Sprains and strain. Sprains—the stretching or tear of your ligaments—and strains—the stretching or tear of your muscles—in the ankle and foot area can be diagnosed by swelling, limited ability to move the ankle joint and muscle spasms This is extremely common when experiencing ball of foot pain, which can be relieved with orthobiologic therapy.
  • Tendon tears. Tendons are the soft tissue that connect attaching muscle to the bone. Tendons such as posterior tibial tendon and peroneal tendon are particularly prone to injury due to overuse or sudden trauma due to fall or strain.

It is truly fascinating how complex the foot and ankle structures are. It is even more fascinating when you learn how much pressure these structures have to endure with our every move, carrying the vast majority of our bodyweight. Dr. Matthew HC Otten, an ambassador of naturally regenerative therapy, explains what are the most common foot pain identifiers, why our feet hurt and how to fix the pain.

Foot and ankle surgery: “the risk is high, the benefits—doubtful”

Both in professional sports and everyday life, surgery has been the number one answer to various foot and ankle problems. However, new research by world’s brightest practitioners and academics shows that surgery may cause more harm than good:

  • In a study designed to evaluate how satisfied foot surgery patients feel after the procedure, most said that the surgery failed to restore their physical ability or take away the pain
  • Following foot and ankle surgery, patients who feel the most pain before the surgery still feel the most pain after the surgery, a study found.
  • A 2015 research has found that diabetes patients who have had undergone an organ transplantation are at a significantly higher risk of a complication following a foot and ankle surgery

CELLAXYS Foot & Ankle Therapy® employs minimally invasive treatments that enhance your body’s ability to heal itself—like stem cell therapy, to naturally regenerate the damaged foot or ankle area.

Stem Cell Therapy Powering Top Athletes

For years now, forms of stem cell therapy have been used by top athletes in adjunction to traditional orthopaedic measures—such as surgery and injections—to heal quicker and grow stronger. Since the late 1990s, a number of leading athletes, including Tiger Woods and Alex Rodriguez, have publically lead the transition away from traditional orthopaedic alternatives such as cortisone (which reduces pain quickly but damages the joint tissue irreversibly.) With long recovery times of surgery, stem cell therapy has become one of the go-to therapy methods for the sports elite.

With roots in top-level athletics, stem cell therapy focuses on safety and efficiency. Since stem cells are the natural building blocks of our body, there is virtually no risk of rejection; and, since the method is non-invasive, the recovery time is minimal (4-6 weeks).

How Does Stem Cell Therapy Work?

Human bodies are made out of small particles called cells—nerve cells, bone cells, blood cells, muscle cells, and so on.

Stem cells are the natural ‘repair’ cells of our bodies. Their ‘job’ is to morph into a type of cell that is damaged and replace it. For example, when you suffer an injury, it is your stem cells that are trying to regenerate the damaged tissue. Stem cells are involved at every stage of human life—right from the conception.

During CELLAXYS Foot & Ankle Therapy®, stem cells are harvested from your body, processed into a more concentrated form, and re-injected precisely into the location of the injury (to repair the damage).

This way, your body’s natural healing resources are right where they’re needed most.
